4.0 Quests

4.0 Quests
A choose-your-own-adventure resource navigation tool for 4.0
4.0 had done the hard work. They'd built a library of high-quality resources for education and social impact entrepreneurs — guides, tools, expert connections, community. The problem wasn't the content. It was that founders couldn't find what they needed, often because they didn't know what to look for in the first place.

"I don't know what I don't know" kept coming up in conversations with founders. It's not laziness or lack of effort — these are scrappy, resourceful people who've done plenty of Googling. The issue is that when you're early in building something, you don't always have the vocabulary to search for the right thing. And a static resource library doesn't help you figure out the question, only the answer.
4.0 needed something that could meet founders where they were and walk alongside them.
What we built
We developed the information architecture and user flow alongside the 4.0 team, then built the entire site from scratch: a full-stack React web app, built in Replit, called 4.0 Quests.

The experience gives users two paths from the moment they land:
The guided adventure — a short series of questions that figures out where the founder is in their journey and what kind of support they're looking for. Four quest categories: How-To's, Community Connection, Expert Support, and Something Else. The tool matches them to relevant resources based on their answers and serves them up as quests to complete. When they finish a quest, they get a celebratory moment and an achievement — a small thing that makes the whole experience feel earned rather than transactional.
The Open Archive — a fully searchable, filterable database of every 4.0 resource, organized by stage, topic, type, and tags. For the founders who know exactly what they need and just want to browse, it's all there. They can bookmark resources to come back to and leave feedback on what's useful.
No login required. Quest progress is saved locally so founders can drop in, self-serve, and pick back up without friction.
The design decision worth noting

The site doesn't force a path. Some people want the guided experience; others want to search. Both are valid, and the site respects that from the first screen. The IA work we did with the team was centered on one principle: this isn't a prescription, it's a starting point. Founders should be able to drop into it anywhere and get value immediately.
That distinction mattered a lot in how we thought about the navigation and the quest completion flow — it needed to feel like an exploration, not a checklist.
The result
4.0's resources are now discoverable in a way that matches how founders actually think — by situation and need, not by category. The tool brings their content to life and gives founders a reason to come back.
